Doing Dishes: Fishs Eddy

Nothing beats good style served up with a sense of humor - which is what makes shopping at Fishs Eddy in New York so much fun.
Housed in an unassuming storefront on the corner of Broadway and 19th near Gramercy Park, it's the kind of shop that makes you feel like you've discovered something special
 --which you have.
Sturdy, diner-grade dishes, cups, bowls and platters reflect the retailer's origins more than 25 years ago when they serendipitously stumbled upon a barn-sized cache of restaurant supplies that had miraculously survived a fire --and decided to sell them.
Today, the concept remains. Unique, "found" items and dishes that look like they were once served at hotels, country clubs, diners and train cars circa 1940s, 50s and 60s share table space with cleverly designed kitchen tools, dinnerware and gadgets. If you didn't think you needed a cow-shaped creamer or a Teddy Roosevelt dancing bear platter before you walked in the door, you might just change your mind.

The only thing stopping this tourist from shopping like a crazy person was the limit on luggage weight...

The good news: their online store is a great place to window shop and with the holidays (yes, I said the H word) coming up fast -I think it's a cool place to score some very special (and thrifty) gifts! Ho! Ho! Ho!

"Dad is great, gives us chocolate cake!"
Does anyone else remember that line? Can you tell me who said it? Trivia!!

 Loved the all-American cutting board!

 So much cuteness!

Dessert plates from the Intervention-Ware collection...
